Skills You Will Master:

1. Swimming Evaluation
Begin your training with a swimming evaluation to gauge your comfort and proficiency in the water:

  • Distance Swim: Complete a 200-meter swim nonstop using any stroke without a mask, snorkel, or swimming aids, or opt for a 300-meter swim using a mask, snorkel, and fins.
  • Survival Swim/Float: Demonstrate a 10-minute survival swim or float. Note: If wearing an exposure suit, ensure you are neutrally buoyant at the surface.

2. Scuba Skills
Learn and practice essential scuba skills for safe diving:

  • Scuba System Assembly and Disassembly
  • Weight System Management: Proper adjustment, removal, and replacement of weight systems both at the surface and at depth.

3. Pre-Dive Checks
Conduct thorough pre-dive checks for yourself and your buddy to ensure safety.

4. Mask Skills
Gain confidence with your mask through partial and full mask clearing at depth, as well as breathing and swimming underwater without a mask.

5. Buoyancy Compensator Device (BCD) Use
Master the use of your BCD:

  • Inflation and deflation (oral/power) at the surface and at depth.
  • Removal and replacement at both the surface and depth.

6. Buoyancy Control
Perfect your buoyancy with hovering exercises, controlled ascents, and descents.

7. Regulator Skills
Become proficient with your regulator:

  • Breathing, clearing, and recovery at the surface and at depth.

8. Underwater Swimming
Practice proper fin use for efficient underwater swimming.

9. Entries and Exits
Learn to safely enter and exit the water:

  • Shallow and deep water entries and exits.

10. Snorkel Use
Improve your snorkel skills:

  • Adjustment, clearing (blast method), regulator-snorkel exchange, and surface snorkel swim in full equipment.

11. Computer Use
Understand and effectively use your dive computer:

  • Reading and understanding data, and comprehending computer functions.

12. Use of Gauges
Learn to accurately read and interpret your gauges.

13. Underwater Communications
Develop effective underwater communication techniques.

14. Rescue Techniques
Prepare for emergencies with essential rescue skills:

  • Tired diver tows and cramp relief.

15. Out-of-Air Emergencies
Handle out-of-air situations confidently:

  • Controlled swimming ascent and alternate air source use with a buddy.

16. Underwater Navigation
Hone your navigation skills to explore the underwater world safely.
